Cosmic Dynamics Series

The Cosmic Dynamics Series emerged during a significant period in my life, when my partner and I began living together. At the same time, he had started an in-depth study of Chinese philosophy, which led us into many passionate discussions about whether the concepts of Yin–Yang and the Five Elements could be understood through the framework of Western logic.
Growing up in China, I was immersed in a culture where the I Ching (Book of Changes) and the philosophy of Yin–Yang and the Five Elements are deeply woven into everyday life. Unlike modern scientific systems, these ideas cannot be fully explained or verified through empirical methods alone. Instead, they offer a holistic way of understanding the universe, shaping Chinese cosmology, values, medicine, calendar systems, and traditional thought for thousands of years.
These conversations inspired me to reconsider my own cultural inheritance. Rather than attempting to explain these philosophical concepts through words or argument, I chose to explore them through artistic practice. Art allows complexity, intuition, and imagination to coexist in ways that rational language often cannot.
Beginning with the cosmological principles found in the I Ching, I developed a visual language based on its symbolic relationships—including form, colour, direction, movement, and energetic balance. Through textile and fibre-based works, I seek to translate these ancient ideas into contemporary visual experiences, inviting viewers to engage with an alternative understanding of the relationship between humanity, nature, and the cosmos.
