Starry Sky No. 44
2021
Shanghai,China
The inspiration for this work came from a worn cleaning cloth that I used to wipe my paintbrushes. One day, after finishing a painting session, I noticed the traces of oil paint left on the fabric while washing it. The accidental patterns were strikingly beautiful, reminding me of a mysterious and distant star-filled sky.
In that moment, I imagined combining these discarded marks with embroidery threads and seed beads, transforming an overlooked piece of waste into something precious and enduring. Through slow, meticulous hand embroidery, the once-forgotten cloth was given a new life.
The work took 44 days to complete, which inspired its title: Starry Sky No. 44.
