Created to commemorate the reunion of the artist and her partner after two years of forced separation during the COVID-19 pandemic, this work reflects both the emotional weight of distance and the joy of returning to one another. Its colours and forms are structured through the dynamic relationships of Yin–Yang and the Five Elements, where balance emerges through cycles of generation and restraint. Flowers, sunlight and a series of hidden symbolic motifs are woven into the composition as expressions of hope, resilience and the possibility of renewal. The work celebrates love not only as a personal bond, but as a quiet force that endures uncertainty and imagines a shared future beyond hardship.
Wedding I

Created to commemorate the artist’s marriage on 22 March 2023, this work transforms the birth dates of the artist and her partner into an abstract visual language based on the Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, Yin–Yang and the Five Elements. The principal lines originate from the symbolic structures associated with their individual birth charts, while colours and geometric forms represent the dynamic interactions of the Five Elements that shape and enrich a shared life.Rather than portraying marriage as an ideal state, the work embraces both harmony and conflict. Subtle traces of black are intentionally retained within the composition, acknowledging that love is strengthened not only through joy but also through challenge, growth and reconciliation.The surface is layered with natural cinnabar mineral pigment, a material traditionally associated in Chinese culture with protection and purification. By incorporating this ancient material into a contemporary artwork, the artist reflects on the enduring relationship between cultural symbolism, personal ritual and the hope for a resilient and evolving partnership.
Wedding II (2024)

Wedding II was created in the spring of 2024 to commemorate the first anniversary of my marriage.The primary structure of the work is constructed from the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches associated with my birth date and that of my partner. A secondary framework is formed from the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches corresponding to the exact date and time of our marriage registration. These intersecting temporal coordinates weave together across the composition, creating a network of mutual restraint and interdependence.The work is dominated by a wide range of yellow tones. In the philosophy of the Five Elements (Wu Xing), earth gives rise to all living things and supports everything that exists. Yellow therefore becomes a symbol of the ground upon which life, relationships, and shared existence are sustained.Within this tightly structured and constrained composition, a single green opening appears at the very top. To me, marriage is both a profound commitment and a form of mutual responsibility. Yet I believe that, beneath this shared bond, each individual must continue to protect and respect the other's independent will. We choose marriage because of love, but our minds and spirits should always remain free.
Seven Years

Created to mark the seventh anniversary of the artist’s relationship with her partner, this work reflects on time, commitment and the cycles that shape human connection. In many Eastern traditions, the number seven signifies the completion of a cycle, while the seventh year represents a threshold of transformation and endurance.
The composition is structured through the symbolic systems of the Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, Yin–Yang and the Five Elements. Using the birth dates of both partners as points of reference, the artist combines the elemental relationships associated with the first and seventh years of their journey together, translating the passage of time into an abstract visual language.
A single black line flows across the entire composition. It is made from a custom pigment created by combining strands of the artist’s and her partner’s hair through an experimental process. Inspired by the Chinese tradition of jiefa (binding hair together as a symbol of lifelong devotion), this intimate material embodies memory, commitment and continuity. Through this gesture, the work reflects the artist’s belief that profound human connections may transcend the boundaries of time, distance and a single lifetime.
